Practical guides you can work through at your own pace. At no charge, and with no obligation to speak with anyone.
Two guides
The North Jersey Retirement Checklist
Five pages, organized by how much time you have left rather than by topic, because that is what determines what you can still fix, with three worked examples showing what the largest decisions are worth at the top of the New Jersey and federal systems. Five years out, two years, one year, six months, then at retirement and the first year after.
The five-year section is the important one. It covers the things that become impossible later: getting your service credit in writing, claiming purchasable prior service before interest compounds, and not dropping employer medical coverage, which can permanently disqualify you from retiree coverage worth far more than the premium you saved.
Or read the whole checklist on this site, all thirty-six items in their entirety.
The Rollover Decision Guide
Five pages on what to do with an old 401(k) or 403(b): the four options, the seven differences that actually change the outcome, and the questions to ask anyone recommending a rollover.
Includes a fill-in worksheet comparing leaving the money in the plan against rolling it to an IRA, on the terms that matter: real cost, creditor protection, penalty-free access age and employer stock treatment.
Or read the whole guide on this site, including the comparison table and the worksheet.

Where should we send them?
Both guides are free. We ask for your name and email so we know who we are sending them to, and a telephone number if you would rather we called. The telephone field is optional. We do not sell your information. Both consent boxes below are optional, and you will receive the guides whether or not you tick them.
These guides are general educational information and do not account for your circumstances. Plan rules, tax thresholds, and dollar limits change and differ by plan, employer, and tier. Verify anything in them against your own plan documents, your retirement system, and current law before acting. See our full disclosures.
Ask about your own situation.
The guides set out the questions worth asking. Working out which of the answers apply to you is the part a document cannot do. We can cover it in a short conversation, at no charge and with no obligation.
